WASHINGTON (NNS) — On December 31, 2013, the Department of Defense (DOD) will end its sponsorship of the Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN) website, AHRN.com.
AHRN is expected to continue to operate as a commercial listings website, offering the same level of service customers have experienced since it was created 10 years ago. Terms and conditions will be updated to reflect the change in sponsorship. Registered users are encouraged to review them carefully to ensure they agree with any changes.
For service members going through a Permanent Change of Station (PCS), the local Navy Housing Service Centers (HSCs) will continue to provide high quality and free home finding services, including: needs assessment, counseling on housing options, and assistance with the leasing process.
“Navy Housing remains committed to assisting military members and their families with finding safe, suitable, and affordable housing, wherever they choose to live,” said William Pearson, Acting Director of Navy Housing at Commander, Navy Installations Command, “while AHRN will no longer be the tool for DOD-approved listings, Navy Housing will continue our tradition of quality customer service in managing and providing DOD-approved listings using other available tools.”
Service members (Navy only) are encouraged to utilize the Housing Early Application Tool (HEAT) www.cnic.navy.mil/HEAT to learn about their housing options, including the availability of privatized housing in the continental U.S. (CONUS) / Hawaii, military housing Outside CONUS, or to obtain lists of DOD-approved community listings that meet their needs.
To continue to provide these DOD-approved listings to customers, Navy Housing will continue its relationship with property managers who offer community housing. Property managers wishing to list a DOD-approved property in 2014 can contact their Navy HSC for local listing processes.
Service members and property managers can contact their Navy Housing at any time and for any reason through a variety of means, including visiting the official website: www.cnic.navy.mil/Housing, through Navy Housing social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube), and via email (NavyHousingHQ@navy.mil). Local Navy HSC contact information can be found at www.cnic.navy.mil/HousingQuickReference.
