Commander, Navy Installations Command’s (CNIC) Navy Housing Program received two APEX Awards of Excellence in 2014 for its Pinterest and Facebook pages. There were over 100 entries in the Social Media category and Navy Housing was the only entrant to win in two categories.
APEX 2014 — the 26th Annual Awards for Publication Excellence — is an international competition that recognizes outstanding publications from newsletters and magazines to annual reports, brochures and websites.
According to the APEX 2014 judges, “The awards were based on excellence in graphic design, quality of editorial content and the success of the entry in conveying the message and achieving overall communications effectiveness.”
“Navy Housing is honored to accept these awards,” said Carol Casto, CNIC Navy Housing Services Program Analyst. “Navy Housing’s social media outlets are critical to communicating with Sailors and their families about all aspects of housing. We leverage these social media outlets to reach them where they are, and allow our customers to have direct access to important housing information, both at a programmatic and installation level.”
Navy Housing uses Facebook to educate their customers about the myriad services available through installation Housing Service Centers (HSCs). In addition to programmatic housing information, the Facebook page is used by customers to ask questions and get feedback about Navy Housing programs. The Navy Housing Pinterest page is used to provide pictures of housing and floor plans to Sailors and their families. Both allow customers to contact Navy Housing HQ, as well as build online communities to offer advice and helpful information to each other.
