Throughout the Navy worldwide, Service members and their families are in the process of moving from one installation to another. Some families may be moving across the country and others around the world.
Most community property managers and landlords may be surprised to know that as many as 75% of active duty Service members live in the community, and not in government housing. This provides the local economy a large market of potential and desirable renters.
Whether you own a single property that you rent out or manage an apartment complex, the local Navy Housing Service Center (HSC) wants to list your property. The Navy HSC is the first stop for Service members and their families looking for homes at their new installation. The HSC is always looking for new properties to list to their customers.
This summer, for the first time, Service members can use a DOD sponsored website to find community housing wherever they are moving. HOMES.mil is a free website that markets rental properties to Service members and their families. Property managers and landlords can add their properties to HOMES.mil. For more information, including tips for property managers, visit www.cnic.navy.mil/HOMES.
Many Navy HSCs offer the Rental Partnership Program (RPP). Perks for property managers that are part of the RPP include:
- Desirable military tenants
- Expanded Marketing
- Rent paid by allotment or automatic payment
- Eligibility for housing verified through HSC
- Applicants must have permanent orders for a minimum amount of time
For more information about the RPP visit www.cnic.navy.mil/RPP.
